POLICY ON GENDER EQUALITY AND INCLUSION
Campo Abierto adheres to the guidelines of the Guide for the evaluation of the editorial and scientific quality of Spanish scientific journals, developed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), designed to promote good editorial practices in gender equality and inclusion. Thus, it declares its commitment to gender policies that promote equality through the following practices:
Campo Abierto includes the full names of the authors of the papers it publishes, avoiding initials and abbreviations.
The journal also provides statistics by gender on the number of authors who publish in Campo Abierto.
Editorial Participation
Campo Abierto is committed to adopting measures to ensure balanced representation and to have at least 40% women in its different editorial teams (Director, Editor, Secretary, Editorial Committee and Advisory Board), as well as among those who evaluate the original manuscripts received by the journal.
Use of Inclusive and Non-Sexist Language
Campo Abierto recommends the use of inclusive, non-sexist and unbiased language in all scientific articles submitted for possible publication in the journal, avoiding the use of the generic masculine wherever possible. For its application, it is advisable to consult the publication “Recomendaciones para un uso adecuado del lenguaje en las universidades” (Recommendations for an appropriate use of language in universities) prepared by the Conferencia de Rectores y Rectoras de las Universidades Españolas (CRUE), as well as the “Guía actualizada de lenguaje no sexista” (Updated guide to non-sexist language) of the Instituto de la Mujer de Extremadura, among others.
Gender Equality and Inclusion in Research
The journal Campo Abierto will especially value those papers that take into account gender as a variable under study, in order to allow the identification of possible differences, as well as those papers whose objective is to identify gender equality and inclusion in research.
Similarly, the Journal incorporates the gender perspective in the review of papers and in the evaluation reports, including recommendations to reviewers in the guidelines for the evaluation of study proposals received, to consider whether the manuscripts avoid reproducing gender stereotypes and biases, and whether they adequately reflect the diversity present in society.
Campo Abierto also encourages science communication from an inclusive perspective, for which we recommend consulting the publication “Towards an inclusive science communication: reflections and successful actions”, by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), to guide the design and implementation of inclusive science communication and outreach initiatives.
