HISTORIA Y ECOLOGÍA: UNA PROPUESTA METODOLÓGICA: EL ENTORNO FORESTAL DE LA EXTREMADURA DIECIOCHESCA

Abstract

In this essay we want to carry out an advance in the reconstruction of the Extremaduran landscape -in the Spanish West-Centre- of the mid-eighteenth century. For this purpose we have collected information from various sources such as Respuestas Generales from Catastro del Marqués de la Ensenada which was carried out by the Castilian Crown from 1749 to 1754. With its informations a total of six maps of vegetable species have been drawn: poplars, ilexes, cork-oaks, oaks, walnuts and conifers, in this entirety made up mainly of pinewoods. From its observations we obtain a startin$ point to understand the extent at which the regional landscape has been transformad throughout the centurias.
