Abstract

This work reflects upon child abuse in different historic periods. Although child abuse is one of the most important problems that children suffer today, it cannot be considered a recent phenomenon. What we find nowadays as aberrant behaviour, the one-off mistreating a defenceless being, has been the most common practice along the centuries until our days. The absence of rights for the minor, the conviction that the parents are their children´s proprietors and the use of the physical punishment as disciplinary method, are key phenomenon to understand the long and painful road that the childhood has had to tolerate and that still today continue tolerating
