Deterioro cognitivo y autonomía funcional en personas mayores: implicaciones psicoeducativas para la intervención

Resumen

En este estudio se describe el perfil cognitivo y funcional de personas mayores y analizó sus implicaciones psicoeducativas. Participaron 61 personas mayores (M = 81,48 años), evaluadas mediante el MMSE, la ENM.dem, el Índice de Barthel, la Escala de Lawton y Brody y la Escala de Depresión Geriátrica. El 86,9 % obtuvo puntuaciones compatibles con deterioro cognitivo en el MMSE y el 63,9 % presentó alteraciones en la ENM.dem. Los resultados evidencian una elevada prevalencia de deterioro cognitivo, dependencia funcional y sintomatología depresiva en la muestra estudiada, y ponen de manifiesto la necesidad de desarrollar intervenciones psicoeducativas integrales dirigidas a preservar la autonomía, estimular el funcionamiento cognitivo y mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas mayores.
