Abstract

The historical process of day care centers’ implementation in Brazil goes through laws and processes of professional formation. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between child health care in early childhood education and the pedagogical practice of day care centers’ professionals and managers, and to elaborate proposals for acting in this scenario. Based on Qualitative research, interviews and workshops with teachers and school development assistants (SDA) and interviews with managers of Municipal Department of Education (MDE) were conducted. Using content analysis, in thematic modality, it was found that articulated care and education require a careful attention to health problems or accidents. Professionals and managers must know the needs of their students and when child becomes ill, refer them to their parents, with management support. It is suggested to work more closely with parents, considering there may be divergent views about care and education of children.
